About OuOu

Hi, welcome to OuOu’s Bloggie! My name is Yew Ming Ting, a.k.a OuOu. OuOu is my nickname. When I was small, I was very afraid of dogs. So, my parents either wanted to help me overcome my fear by keep calling me OuOu (sounds like dog bark), or they were bored and wanted to see my reaction when they called my nickname. The later is more believable to me.

I am Malaysian Chinese who grew up in Kuching (East Malaysia on Borneo island), Malaysia and currently reside in Iowa, USA.

I have four siblings and they are my best friends. I miss the time when we were young with less attachments and responsibilities. With all of them living in different cities in different countries now, it is so important for all of us to keep in touch!

Through this blog, I would like to share bits and pieces of my life with my friends and family; and with whoever is interested in reading my stories.

Mandarin is my mother tongue. I have problems conveying my thoughts clearly in English but I try. I hope that by writing regularly, I will be able to express myself more articulately. Forgive me, if I occasionally include some “foreign words” other than English. A typical Malaysian Chinese conversation in Kuching involves the use of various languages and dialects such as Mandarin, Malay, English, Hokkien, Cantonese, etc. It’s so much fun to mix in terms from different languages and movies and it’s often hilarious. I feel like I am “flying” without my wings when speaking in English. Oh well! I will include these “foreign” words in the glossary section. Maybe you could pick up a few new words too!

Camwhoring” is common in my photos. To be honest, my parents don’t care much about scenery. They miss me so much that all they look for is me in the photos.

This blog will serve as my creative outlet and I hope to share my personal honest point of view on various issues with you. Enjoy.
